If I've said it once, I've said it a million times...gardening is an art form. The bummer of it is, it's a form of art that eludes me. I've tried and tried over the years to plant flowers, grow food, and keep a house plant alive. All of these attempts ended with the death of a poor innocent plant. Oh, the guilt I have endured!!!
But, alas I have experienced some success lately. I now am the proud owner of 5 house plants that are not only alive, but thriving! My sister, Michelle, told me that she talks to her plants, and so I have been doing the same. I am particularly fond of the gorgeous ZZ plant (I believe they are nearly impossible to kill) in the corner of my family room. She gets a good talking to every day, but I try not to play favorites in front of the others.
Anyway, feeling cocky and full of myself, I decided to take a stab at gardening again. My compost box (which apparently I am really good at keeping a box of discarded food alive and well) has been growing for years now. I mixed the compost in with some good gardening soil and planted various herbs, tomatoes, serrano peppers, squash, and strawberries.
SO FAR SO GOOD! Aside from the rats (hello, its SoCal after all) eating the squash and strawberries, we are already enjoying the other stuff with our dinners. Nothing tastes better than food that you grow yourself.
And if I can do it, anybody can do it.
